The Department of Health of ASCIM (DPSI) has regularly offered courses for training Indigenous Health Promoters for more than 30 years. The level of study was always fixed according to the level of education of the interested persons. The last course, given from 2009 to 2011, was already based on a class with high school level. In this manner, 13 technicians of promoting health issues for the service of the community were given back to the communities in 2012.
This area of study constantly needs financial support to pay for the teaching materials, the salary of the teachers of the Evangelical University of Paraguay and the cost of living of the students. The studies are complimented with practical instructions in the hospital Yalve Sanga. The emphasis is public health, especially the prevention of sicknesses, but also treatment of sicknesses.
In the year 2014 the nursing faculty moved from the health department to the department of education, thus including it as part of the official education curriculum of ASCIM. The degree "Técnico Superior en Enfermería", Higher Technician in Nursing, was offered in cooperation with the Evangelical University of Paraguay and the training was finished in July of 2017. The next course is expected to begin in 2018.
