The ASCIM promotes cultivating gardens for the personal consumption. In this area it is especially necessary to motivate the village people, which is a part of the job of the agricultural technician of the ASCIM. He does this by way of short motivating speeches and by visiting the communities.
The family gardens are financed by the community budget. The expenses are built into the annual finance plan, and this makes it possible that they can prepare the fields with community machineryin order to be able to sow seeds two or three times a year.
In 2016 about 2.000 hectares of land were used for family gardens for 855 families. They planted mandioc, sweet potatoes, corn, watermelon, etc.
